A Great One Has Passed

My very favorite author in the world, is no more. J.D. Salinger died yesterday at the age of 91.

He was the great master of such works as "Franny and Zooey", "Raise High the Roofbeams Carpenters, "Nine Stories", "Seymour: an Introduction", and most notably, "The Catcher in the Rye".

Update

So. It's been a while!!!

Things have been all "a flutter" here as we rush around trying to get the last minute pieces of our dossier together.

We are in the home stretch. We expect our passports to arrive any day now (which will, officially, make me feel like Jason Bourne)! In the meantime we are tying up the other loose ends so that when our passports arrive, we can move on to the "authentication" step. First, we will drive our whole dossier to Morrow County, to have it authenticated at the COUNTY level. After that, we will drive it to Columbus to have it authenticated at the STATE level. Then, it's off to Kinkos to make three copies and mail the whole deal out to our adoption agency. As long as everything is well, America World will have our dossier out the door to Ethiopia within 2-3 weeks!!! Once our dossier is in Ethiopia, the average wait time for a male infant referral is currently 3-6 months. Wow!!! We're so close!

I find myself thinking about Phin a lot these days. It's absolutely brutal for me to watch all the news coverage on the orphans in Haiti. Every time I see an orphan laying by themself on a street or a mat, I think of Phin, and how I wish someone was there to pick him up and snuggle him. We've been praying for the orphans in Haiti a lot these days. There were even a couple days there where I thought it was a real possiblilty we would be able to take one of them into our home. And when it didn't work out, I got really discouraged. But one statisitic that I find absolutely ASTOUNDING is this: before the earthquake Haiti had an estimated 350,000 orphans. Post earthquake, it's looking to be close to one million. Ethiopia has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. Whether it's stateside, Haiti, Ethiopia, or elsewhere, there are so many kids that need homes. Let's start somewhere!

Thanks again for sharing in our journey and praying for us. We love you!!
